1st Intl. ECAR Symposium Hosted by Link & Learn at WTC
On October twenty-third at the World Trade Centre – Vienna Airport, Link & Learn Aviation Training GmbH, with the support of Austro Control, held the first International ECARs Symposium. Link & Learn is a joint venture company established by infoWERK GmbH, Austrian Airlines and Fairchild Dornier.

Link & Learn organized the symposium to provide the aviation industry with an update on the new European Aviation Regulations , which replace the existing JARs as a result of the formation of EASA - the European Aviation Safety Agency.

Representatives of 29 aviation organisations from Germany, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary attended the event.

Franz Graser of Austro Control provided the keynote speech, presenting the changes from JAR 145, 147 and 66 regulations to EASA Parts 145, 147, 66 and the new Part M. Although the new rules have been in force since September twenty-eighth, the final version was still not available at the time of the symposium. Mr. Graser, as member of the EU core group, was able to provide the necessary information based on the final drafts, and an insider’s view of the thinking behind some of the new rules.

Sigibert Gailer of AvCraft Aerospace GmbH demonstrated how using web-based training in combination with classroom training could accommodate the different credits and training requirements of students with varying professional backgrounds. He introduced the Link & Learn Training Concept as an example.

Herbert Kavka of Austrian presented a talk entitled “Expectations from Airline Training Departments,” based on experiences with the existing regulations and their interpretation by the European authorities.

Harald Strehling, the managing director of Link & Learn, provided the closing remarks.
