Below you will find very short explanations to different terms, abbreviations and acronyms used concerning
e-learning and various kinds of computer support for learning and instruction.

TASK ANALYSIS Process by which an instructional designer (through observation, questionnaires, focus group sessions, or one-on-one Q&A with an SME) extrapolates the steps necessary to perform a skill or to build knowledge. Identifies learning objectives and sequence of instruction
TBT (TECHNOLOGY-BASED TRAINING) An all encompassing term that can include anything from online learning, CD-ROM, and use technology for learning, usually outside the classroom.
TELECOMMUNICATION The science of information transport using wire, radio, optical, or electromagnetic channels to transmit and receive signals for voice or data communications
TELECOMMUTING Working at home but connecting to one's office by way of a computer network.
TELECONFERENCING Two-way electronic communication between two or more groups in separate locations via audio, video, and/or computer systems
TELELEARNING A learning situation where teacher and student are at different places. This separation can be spatially or/and temporal.
TELETUTORING Consultation of the pupils on spatial distance by means of email, the internet, telephone or video conference, in the working life by hotline. During the entire learning phase, i.e. from booking through to the last lesson, the tutor can observe the students progress and can, when necessary, provide assistance.
TELECOACHING Is about increasing an individual's knowledge and thought processes with a particular task or process. It creates a supportive environment that develops critical thinking skills, ideas, and behaviours about a subject. Although it is closely tied to training, it is more personal and intimate in nature.
TEMPLATE A predefined set of tools or forms that establishes the structure and settings necessary to quickly create content
TOUCH SCREEN An input device used to simplify user input and response. The user touches the screen to control the output, working with menus or multiple-choice decision points. Allows some simulation of hands-on training; for example, pointing to parts on a machine
TRAINING A process that aims to improve knowledge, skills, attitudes, and/or behaviours in a person to accomplish a specific job task or goal. Training is often focused on business needs and driven by time-critical business skills and knowledge, and its goal is often to improve performance.
TRAINING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM See Learning Management System (LMS).
TUTORIAL Step-by-step instructions presented through computer or Web-based technology, designed to teach a user how to complete a particular action.
