Everyone has something to say about e-learning,
but are we communicating in the same language?
Below you will find very short explanations to different terms,
abbreviations and acronyms used concerning
e-learning and various kinds of computer support for learning and
instruction.
This glossary is updated periodically.

J
| JAVA |
An object-oriented programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. Java isn't dependent on specific hardware and can be launched from within an HTML document or stand- alone. |
| JAVA APPLET |
A small Java program launched through a browser. |
| JAVASCRIPT |
A scripting language that's simpler than Java and can add interactivity to Webpages. JavaScript commands allow tasks to be completed by the Web browser when a user views a Webpage. (e.g. making a graphic change when a user moves the cursor over it.) |
| JOB AID |
Often generated in paper or electronic format, used to relieve learner to rely on memory to remember a skill (typically procedure) |
| JPEG (JOINT PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERTS GROUP) |
A format for image compression that enables the user to weigh image quality against file size. JPEG also stands for the subgroup of the International Organization for Standardization responsible for setting the standards for this format. |
